Future of Money : RBNZ webinars
The Reserve Bank – Te Pūtea Matua is testing its thinking about how it should approach its new role as steward of the money and cash system, and how it should make sure that central bank money continues to do its job in light of significant changes affecting how New Zealanders pay, receive and save money. This includes whether a Central Bank Digital Currency should join cash as central bank money, and the potential for private innovations such as stablecoins to help or hinder society and the economy.
There will be four sessions held. Each webinar will cover the same material and both issues papers, but with extra emphasis on one of the topics:
Future of Money – Stewardship (Te Moni Anamata – Kaitiakitanga) introduces the context for the Reserve Bank’s work programme on money and cash issues, and the key concepts that underpin this work. We’re seeking feedback on the proposed approach to the role of a steward of money and cash and the proposed priority areas for policy development.
Future of Money – Central Bank Digital Currency (Te Moni Anamata – Aparangi ā Te Pūtea Matua) wants your views on how we propose to explore whether a CBDC is right for Aotearoa. The Reserve Bank’s initial CBDC considerations are focused on the public policy case for, or against, a CBDC that would be available to all individuals, communities and businesses.
